Mrs. Pat Benkert welcomes you to Preschool!

Preschool is an exciting year filled with growth and discovery.  In addition to learning letters, numbers, shapes, and colors, we also participate in many hands-on activities.  For example, we have explored the parts of a pumpkin by actually cutting one open and using our senses to discover what a pumpkin is like.  In the spring, we will be raising caterpillars and releasing them when they are fully grown as butterflies.  There are many other hands-on activities planned for this year.

We work on fine motor skills by completing a craft everyday using our scissors and gluing skills.  We also learn how to hold a pencil correctly and begin learning how to write letters.  We learn how to write our first and last names in preschool.  For gross motor skills, we have lots of fun jumping, running, and climbing on the outside playground.  We participate in centers, everyday.  We practice writing, looking at books, doing puzzles, working on math skills and completing hands on activities that are related to the weekly theme.  We also learn about God and enjoy stories from the children's bible and activities relating to the stories.

We have weekly themes in preschool.  This year's themes are:

August/September:  Back to School, All About Me, Family, Apples, Fall

October:  Weather, Fire Safety, Leaves, Pumpkins, Halloween

November:  Pets, Dinosaurs, Thanksgiving

December:  Hibernation, Arctic Animals, Christmas
